Pray for the Prey
...there was some function at the high school, so I went with the family to check it out. Luke was down the hallway with his friends and we were looking at the projects. He seemed a little distant, like he was trying to keep us away from the area he was in. I had planned on taking everybody out for ice cream afterwards, so I was trying to get us all together so we could leave and that's when I overheard someone telling Luke that he left something in church. I was a little confused and then he had to tell me that he joined a church at school. Apparently, the high school had a church and were recruiting kids and he was one of them. I was angry and disappointed and asked what he was doing. He was obviously hiding it because he was upset that I found out. I was also enraged that the school had put in a church on their property and were pulling in kids. He told me to relax and he said the best way to deal with it was to learn about it and approach it in a logical way. I understood he wanted to be accepted and a part of a group but there were less abusive groups to belong to. He went on about how, if he was accepting of other people and knowledgeable about what they were interested in, then he could affect them from the inside. He can enlighten them and maybe keep them from being the toxic kind of people that are hurting the world. He sounded incredibly wise but I was just upset that he might be getting suckered in. Of course, one of his (RL) friends was there, watching the interaction. I was creeped out that the kid was there and I figured he'd had a hand in all this (He's a Christian in RL, who doesn't respect the word 'no'.) I was so upset that I forgot about the ice cream and we went home. I was just tired and ready to go to bed and stressed out. I think my youngest mentioned the ice cream and I was like, 'Ah, jeez! I gotta make it right and take them out!' but we were already home and far away from town...
